A summary of the Conductor’s notes…
In the 1st Movement we are introduced to Ebenezer Scrooge.
Then Jacob Marley appears.
He warns Scrooge of his impending dire destiny,
He tells him of the visitation of the Three Spirits, Past, Present, and Future, and He departs to be seen nevermore.
The 2nd Movement has the visitation of the Three Spirits in succession and concludes with Scrooge witnessing mournfully his final breaths.
And the 3rd and Final Movement has Ebenezer’s profound jubilation and thanksgiving that he has been given a second chance and an opportunity to redeem himself from the cold, avaricious and callous man He once was.
And after a flurry of joyous activity, the movement culminates in a sacred moment of reverential awe of what He has been given, concluding the concerto.
